7-Layer Salad

This is a really great salad to bring to a potluck - make the day before.
1 head of iceberg lettuce, shredded
1 cup celery, diced
1 large green pepper, diced
1 cup green onions, diced
1 bag frozen sweet peas, uncooked
8 oz. can sliced water chestnuts
8 oz. grated sharp cheddar cheese
Dressing:
2 cups mayonnaise
2 tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. salt
Topping:
8 slices cooked bacon, chopped
2 hard-boiled eggs, diced
In a 9" x 13" glass baking dish, spread a full layer of each of the first seven
ingredients in the order listed. Mix dressing ingredients together, and spread
over top of salad completely. Cover tightly with saran wrap and refrigerate
overnight. When ready to serve, sprinkle with bacon bits and chopped egg.
