Bib Swap

This swap began on November 1st, 2006 and is now concluded! Thanks for your participation!

There is a sign-up every other month for this swap.
If you would like to "sit out" on certain months, just remove your name from the sign-up.

This will be a "theme-less" swap - send a bib of your choice to your pal!

This will be an every-other-month swap, swapping during the months opposite to the book swap.
Suggested spending limit is $5 / month, not including shipping.
Please mail your gifts by the 15th of each month.

Deadline for first mailing: 11/25/06

Guidelines:
8-1/2 X 11 – 2 page spread
Space for at least two photos and journaling
Include a page title
2-3 mats for 4X6 photos
2-3 colors
Only use quality paper products – archival quality
Cost $5-$7 excluding postage
Mail out by the 25th (include a piece of press board or poster board
to provide some support during the mailing process)

Themes:
November: Thanksgiving
December: Christmas/Hanukkah
January: My Family
February: Snow
March: Bath Time
April: Easter/Passover
May: Dinner Time
June: On the Go (could be travel or walking)

I selected the 8-1/2 X 11 since it's easier to mail and it's
relatively simple to convert to 12X12 by adhering to coordinating or
contrasting piece of cardstock and adding some additional
embellishments.

There will be new pal assignments each month.

Secret Pal Gift Exchange

Get to know your fellow DTC'ers through a secret pal gift exchange!

In addition, if you have any problems your coordinator will help you out the best she can. To sign up:   Please send an email to one of the swap coordinators, listed below! Sign-up deadline for this exchange period is February 29, 2008!

Pal:     You will keep the same pal for the entire swap and are encouraged to keep your identity secret if possible. A different pal will be sending you gifts. In addition, you may send emails occasionally to your pal for support and encouragement. You can contact your pal through your swap coordinator, and she will send your email along anonymously to your pal.  Some swappers have also set up an anonymous email account to correspond with their pal (while still keeping their identity secret)!

The recommended spending limit each month is $10, not including shipping. It is okay if you go OVER this limit, if you choose. We have found that many people love shopping and buying gifts for their pals, and it's not uncommon for people to go over this limit! HOWEVER, please remember that if you choose to go over the limit, please don't expect to receive gifts over this limit in return. It's perfectly okay to only spend $10 each month. Many folks are on budget restrictions, and simply can't spend more than this, and that is okay.

Shipping your package and remaining "anonymous": Please mark "March DTC" on the outside of your package, so that your pal knows what the package is. You can ship by whatever method is easiest for you. Please remember that if your pal ships by parcel post or another slower service, you might not receive your gift until 2 weeks after the ship date. Often we're asked, won't the return address give my identity away?  There are a few different strategies that you can use. First of all, you are encouraged to try NOT to peek at the return address or postmark, and ruin your own surprise!! :) :)  You can use your work address or your spouse's work address as an alternate. Or, you can take your package to a different city and mail from there. Some people also use their swap coordinator's address as a return address, which you are welcome to do. We will email you our addresses so you can use that as an option. Mostly you are encouraged to not do too much snooping and investigation into who your pal might be!!

Getting to know you: How do we get to know each other's likes, dislikes, wants, wishes and desires? We have a Secret Pal Blog where each member of the Secret Pal gift exchange can go in and make an entry of their nursery color, theme, dislikes, likes, etc.  If you are a new swapper, we will send you an invite to this blog. You need to follow the link contained in the invite in order to join. Your first post should be an introductory post for your pal to read, so she can get to know a little about you! See the very first entry on the blog for an example of what to post.  The website will also be used to post thank-yous and share photos of the gifts received.

**Everyone is required to post a "thank-you" note either to the message board or to the secret pal blog, upon receiving their gift. This is the only way that your pal knows that you successfully received her gift.  As soon as you receive your gift each month, please post a thank-you. You are also encouraged to post pictures of your gift on the secret pal blog, if you have a digital camera! That way everyone can enjoy your gifts!!

Swap time frame:  This swap period will run from April 2008 - September 2008. You should send your gift no later than the 25th of the month. Each pal commits to sending 6 gifts during this swap period.  At the end of this swap period, if we all decide to extend the gift exchange (and referrals haven't arrived yet!!!), then you will have the opportunity to either DROP OUT or CONTINUE at that time.

If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to email us privately or post on the board. We hope that you will all find this as a fun and exciting way to pass some time while you wait for your angel!

Let the shopping begin!!

Walk Through China

Need to shape up and build some endurance for your upcoming trip to China?  Join us as we take a 'virtual' walking tour of China!  We're starting at the Badaling section of the Great Wall, and proceeding on to other points of interest throughout China.  Count the miles that you log while doing your daily exercise, whether it be walking, jogging, swimming, or biking.  Post your miles to the Walk Through China database, and we'll see how long it takes to move from one attraction to the next!  Lace up those walking shoes, and let's get going!

To log your miles (or kilometers), visit the Database section of the message board, and locate the Walk Through China database. There is a place to enter your name and total distance covered. Our official Walk Through China cheerleader, Kim, will keep us updated on how far we've gone, and what our next waypoint will be!

We have custom tour guides and tour maps for you to enjoy along the way!  The guides (Word format) give you a brief glimpse of the history and beauty of each waypoint we pass along the way, and the maps (JPG format) show you where we are going.

Part I   - Tour Guide   Tour Map (already completed! way to go!!)
Part II - Tour Guide   Tour Map (already completed! way to go!!)

Part III - Tour Guide   Tour Map
Total distance covered:  1673 miles!
as of 9/21/06
** Special kudos to our marathoner Suzanne who has faithfully led the pack!

Book Swap

This swap has now concluded! Thanks for your participation!

The book swap is an every-other-month swap. Unlike the Secret Pal Gift Exchange, we will NOT be keeping our identity a secret. Therefore, once you receive your "book buddy's" name, you will be responsible for contacting that person via e-mail to get his/her address.

To keep the swap exciting, the swap coordinator (Kim) will match up different people for each swap! This way, you'll be getting different books from all over the country or world! Also, if someone doesn't wish to participate one month, you can just remove your name and join back in the next time.

Books should be mailed out by the 25th of the month. The limit will be $15.00 (not including postage). As with the gift exchange, feel free to spend more, but please don't expect it in return.

Happy Swapping!

Monthly Book Swap Themes:

June '06:  All about China
Send your “book buddy” your favorite Chinese children’s book!  Perhaps about Chinese New Year
 or the Autumn Moon festival…

 August:  Mealtime or Bedtime Fun
Send a book about food or your favorite book to read at bedtime!

October:  I must be in a Zoo?
Send your “book buddy” any book with an animal in the story – this one shouldn’t be hard to find!

 December:  Holiday Classics
How about sending your favorite holiday children’s book? – or any book on celebrations such as a birthday!

February '07:  Family Treasures
With referrals on their way, why not send your “book buddy” a favorite story on family or your favorite story from your childhood!

April:  Bath Time!
Books about bath time, or books that can be read while in the tub! :)

Please remember these themes are just guidelines to go by if you’re having a hard time deciding on a book!
Feel free to talk it over with your “book buddy” on likes/dislikes – or share books that you already have…

One Hundred Good Wishes Quilt Swap

Welcome to our 100 Good wishes Quilt Group! We are so glad that you have joined us. You have joined a quilt square swapping group so we can help each other collect enough quilt squares for a 100 Good Wishes Quilt. This custom is from Northern China- called "Bai Jia Bei" to celebrate a new life in a family.

Our first Quilt Swap was completed in June '06. It was a "general" swap with any type of fabric pattern.
Our second Quilt Swap was completed in August '06, with an Asian fabric theme.
Our third Quilt Swap was completed in April '07, and was a postcard + quilt square swap!

Here is how it works:

Members pick out their fabric (any theme), which should be 100% pre-washed cotton. Squares should be 9"x9" scissor cut, or 8"x8" rotary cut (fabric cutter).

The fabric square will be sent with a postcard from the member's town, state, or country, with a wish written on the back.

If you are interested, sign up in the database with your name and email address. Shortly before the deadline I will contact those who have expressed an interested and request that they send me their mailing address. Once I have gathered all the addresses I will send an email to everyone in the group with the addresses of those participating.
